An administrative employee of the City of Amsterdam went on trial on September 18, 2026, accused of corruption and complicity in a wave of explosions and shootings across the Netherlands. According to the Dutch Public Prosecution Service (Openbaar Ministerie, OM), the suspect is alleged to have searched government databases for home addresses and personal details of private citizens between January 2024 and May 2025, then passed the information on to two co-defendants who resold it to buyers within criminal networks.
Prosecutors have linked information obtained through these searches to at least 95 violent incidents nationwide, including 36 explosions, 14 threatening or bullet letters delivered to homes, eight shootings at residential addresses, two attempted murders, and one kidnapping. The employee was arrested in May 2025.
The trial opened at the Amsterdam District Court on September 18 and is scheduled to run through September 25, with additional hearing dates set for September 21-23. The case is being described by the Ministry of Justice and Security as a stark example of how corrupted access to official records can directly enable violent crime.
