A 28-year-old Dutch man from Overasselt was arrested at a rest stop on the A44 near Soest, Germany, on September 18, 2026, on suspicion of involvement in the attempted importation of nearly 4,000 kilograms of cocaine through the port of Dunkirk, France, Dutch police said.
The shipment, discovered in containers on September 7, 2026, was investigated by the National Police’s Landelijke Opsporing en Interventies (LO) unit under the authority of the National Public Prosecution Service. Police say the case is connected to an explosion in Overasselt on September 1, 2026. A second suspect was arrested in Dordrecht roughly two weeks earlier in connection with the same, 3,857-kilogram shipment. An extradition request has been filed for the man arrested in Germany.
