A Dutch court has ordered 32 of 33 suspects held in a case linked to a fatal shooting in Overasselt to remain in pre-trial detention, the Public Prosecution Service (OM) said on September 18, 2026, after a pre-trial detention review (raadkamer) hearing. One suspect was released without appearing before the court.
The suspects, aged 18 to 31, come from across the Netherlands, France and Belgium – including six from the Amsterdam area, five from Marseille, and others from Hoorn, Capelle aan den IJssel, several French towns and Vilvoorde in Belgium; twelve have no fixed address, and two are French minors whose details have been withheld. Prosecutors say the case involves murder, attempted murder of police officers, illegal weapons possession and preparation for violence, following an incident in which a security guard was killed and shots were fired at responding officers.
The court found sufficient grounds to keep the 32 suspects detained while the investigation continues; a date for the first substantive hearing has not yet been set, and prosecutors say further arrests are not ruled out.
