Overasselt Case (September 2026)

This case concerns a fatal shooting in Overasselt, Gelderland, in which a security guard was killed and shots were fired at responding police officers. A Dutch court ordered 32 of 33 suspects, aged 18 to 31 and from the Netherlands, France and Belgium, held in pre-trial detention on 18 September 2026 over murder, attempted murder of officers, and illegal weapons possession.

Dutch police have also linked the case to a separate investigation into an attempted 4,000-kilogram cocaine shipment through Dunkirk, after a suspect from Overasselt was arrested in Germany; police say that case is connected to an explosion in Overasselt on 1 September 2026.
